If you want to talk about an artist who has persevered in the face of adversity, then you’ll want to learn about Marina Morgan’s incredible and inspirational story.
At the age of 13, Marina was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease called acute disseminated encephalomyelitis or ADEM. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes website, “Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is characterized by a brief but widespread attack of inflammation in the brain and spinal cord that damages myelin – the protective covering of nerve fibers.” As a result of this disease, Marina became wheelchair bound for a period of time requiring her to relearn how to walk and use her arms.
Ten years later, Marina was diagnosed with Lyme disease which caused esophageal spasms making it difficult for her to swallow food, weakness in her arms & legs making it difficult to walk and maintain balance and she loss vision in one eye.
Marina has battled back and even wrote a song about her experience called “Paralyzed” which became her first single. Marina’s latest single is called “Nightmare.” She was Elvis Duran’s pick for Elvis Duran’s “Artist of the Month” and iHeartRadio has just featured her as “Emerging Artist of the Week.”
