Doctor Who: And the Thirteenth Doctor will be . . .

BBC & BBC America officially announced today that British actress Jodie Whittaker will take over the role of The Doctor, marking the first time a female lead has taken over the role of The Doctor in the Doctor Who franchise. Whittaker will make her first appearance as the Thirteenth Doctor in the Doctor Who Christmas Special airing on Christmas Day 2017.

Whittaker takes over for current Doctor Who lead, Peter Capaldi (Twelfth Doctor) who has played the role of The Doctor since taking over for Matt Smith (Eleventh Doctor) in 2013 (“The Time of The Doctor”). Both Capaldi and current showrunner Steven Moffat will depart the show following the Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Whittaker is most recently known for her role as Beth Latimer in the British crime drama series Broadchurch, a series created & written by incoming Doctor Who showrunner, Chris Chibnall and starring former Doctor Who lead, David Tennant (Tenth Doctor).

With the Thirteenth Doctor named, Doctor Who fans will get one final adventure with Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor this Christmas before The Doctor regenerates. What exciting adventures does Chibnall have in store for Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor? We’ll have to wait and see!

Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor’s Speech in “The Doctor Falls”

Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor gave quite a speech to Missy (Michelle Gomez) and The Master (John Simm) in the Doctor Who season 10 finale episode “The Doctor Falls”. The Doctor gives this speech in an attempt to convince Missy and The Master to stand with him against the Cybermen assault and help save the people on floor 507 of the spaceship.

Showrunner Steven Moffat and the entire Doctor Who team of writers have written some fantastic stories for the show as well as some really great memorable lines. This speech, with Capaldi’s emotional delivery, should make it one for the Doctor Who record books and archive.

Read The Doctor’s speech and watch Peter Capaldi’s emotional delivery in “The Doctor Falls”.

Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans: 100th Episode Milestone

Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans celebrated their 100th episode milestone this past week. This milestone follows the successful release of their latest one hour special, “Thunder in Paradise,” on Nickelodeon which aired last weekend. “Thunder in Paradise” picks up following the events in the episode “Come What Mayhem”.

The Thundermans is a live action series about a family of superheroes trying to live normal lives in the town of Hiddenville. The show stars Kira Kosarin (Phoebe Thunderman/Thunder Girl), Jack Griffo (Max Thunderman), Addison Riecke (Nora Thunderman), Diego Velazquez (Billy Thunderman), Maya Le Clark (Chloe Thunderman), Chris Tallman (Hank Thunderman/Thunder Man) and Rosa Blasi (Barb Thunderman/Electress) with Dana Snyder (Dr. Colosso) and Audrey Whitby (Cherry) who appear frequently in the series along with numerous recurring cast members.

The show originally focuses on “Thunder Twins” Phoebe and Max . . . Phoebe, who is working to become a superhero and Max, who is working to become a supervillain. The series has evolved and the characters have grown over the past four seasons with Phoebe & Max now working together as a superhero team to compete for a spot in the legendary Z-Force, a group of elite superheroes of the Hero League.

In May 2017, Nickelodeon announced that they had ordered six more episodes of the show for the current season (Season 4) bringing the show over the 100-episode mark and their overall series total to 103 episodes, making Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans the longest running live action series since Nickelodeon favorite iCarly which starred Miranda Cosgrove, Jennette McCurdy, Nathan Kress, Noah Munck and Jerry Trainor.

Congratulations to the entire cast & crew of The Thundermans on reaching this incredible milestone! The success and popularity of this show is due in no small part to the great work by both those in front of and behind the cameras. Well done!

Doctor Who: The Doctor Falls . . . Twelve Meets One

“Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand is where I fall.” – The Doctor

EPIC! . . . The Doctor Who season 10 finale episode, “The Doctor Falls” brought the season around full circle and wrapped up storylines for Bill (Pearl Mackie), Nardole (Matt Lucas), Missy (Michelle Gomez) and The Master (John Simm). The episode also showcased The Doctor’s ongoing ability to one-up The Master & Missy, fight off the Cybermen, instill hope in times of hopelessness and against all odds, save the day!

“I do what I do because it’s right! Because it’s decent! And above all, it’s kind! It’s just that . . . Just kind.” – The Doctor

The finale was filled with some great quotable lines and The Doctor gave quite a speech to Missy and The Master. It also threw in some humor at just the right times and paid homage to the Doctor Who franchise.

“Pity . . . no stars. I hope there’d be stars.” – The Doctor

At the end of the season 10 finale episode, we see Capaldi’s twelfth Doctor rejecting his body’s attempt at regeneration stating “No! I will not change!” The TARDIS has taken The Doctor to a snowy location where the twelfth Doctor encounters a familiar face . . .  the very first Doctor (David Bradley), “the original, you might say”. We’ll have to wait a few months before we see how this plays out in the Christmas Special, which airs Christmas Day 2017, but rest assured, it’ll be a blast!

“You may be a doctor, but I am The Doctor. The original, you might say.” – The First Doctor

With just the Christmas Special remaining, the end is near for current Doctor Who showrunner, Steven Moffat and the twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi. Both Moffat and Capaldi will depart the show at the end of the Christmas Special with Moffat turning over the reigns to incoming showrunner, Chris Chibnall. Chibnall is no stranger to Doctor Who, having written several episodes for the show. Chibnall will begin his run as Doctor Who showrunner with a clean slate for season 11 leaving open the question of who will fill the role of The Doctor.

“Without hope, without witness, without reward.” – The Doctor

Moffat has done a tremendous job for the Doctor Who franchise during his tenure as showrunner and Capaldi has done an incredible job filling the role of The Doctor and making the character his own for the past three seasons. The same can be said of Mackie, Lucas, Gomez and the entire cast and crew of Doctor Who. Fans will surely miss their immense contributions to the show and franchise.

“Run you clever boy . . . and be a Doctor!” – Clara Oswald
