Apple Releases iOS 11.0.2 Update; fixes crackling noise/static on iPhone 8/8 Plus

Apple released the iOS 11.0.2 update today. It’s the second update to iOS 11 since the release of the new version of iOS two weeks ago.

iPhone 8/8 Plus users experiencing a crackling noise or static when using the earpiece on their devices will be thrilled to get this update as this particular issue is addressed in this update.

According to the software update release notes, “iOS 11.0.2 includes bug fixes and improvements for your iPhone or iPad.” The update fixes/addresses the following issues:

  • Fixes an issue where crackling sounds may occur during calls for a small number of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus devices
  • Addresses an issue that could cause some photos to become hidden
  • Fixes an issue where attachments in S/MIME encrypted e-mails would not open

Users can update to iOS 11.0.2 wirelessly on their iOS devices by going to Settings | General | Software Update then clicking on “Download and Install” or by connecting their iOS devices to their computer and downloading and installing the update through iTunes. As a best practice, you should always perform a current backup of your devices before installing iOS updates.
