Since the release of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, some users have complained about a crackling noise or static on their iPhone 8/8 Plus devices. The sound doesn’t occur on every call but has occurred enough to be noticeable and disruptive to users.
The crackling noise/static occurs when using the iPhone 8/8 Plus earpiece and affects both cellular and FaceTime calls across carriers. The issue does not appear to occur when using the speaker or earphones.
In a statement to The Verge, an Apple spokesperson said “We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases. Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release.”
Apple recently released iOS 11.0.1, the first update to iOS 11, with bug fixes and improvements; however, it does not address this particular issue. While Apple has not indicated when a software fix will become available, given the nature of the issue, we hope to see one soon.

Update – 10/3/2017
Apple has released its second update to iOS 11 – iOS 11.0.2.
According to the release notes, iOS 11.0.2 “Fixes an issue where crackling sounds may occur during calls for a small number of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus devices.”
Users can update to iOS 11.0.2 wirelessly on their iOS devices by going to Settings | General | Software Update then clicking on “Download and Install” or by connecting their iOS devices to their computer and downloading and installing the update through iTunes. As a best practice, you should always perform a current backup of your devices before installing iOS updates.
